Our mission drives Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Preschool. We are committed to provide each child entrusted to our care with a quality education rooted in a loving Christian environment. We offer safe child development programs and services that meet the needs of the community. In carrying out this mission, with the highest ethical standards, we make the following commitment:

We will provide our children with an outstanding educational curriculum in a safe and nurturing environment that promotes excellent academic ability. We encourage a Godly character and education in the Christian faith.

In this commitment, we seek to give peace of mind to our families about their child's physical, educational, social, emotional and developmental well-being.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Preschool curriculum is bias-free and developmentally based, focusing on the individual child's social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual needs. Research tells us the first five years of children's lives influence their learning potential for life.

We strive to develop language and listening skills in the children through stories, art, dramatic play, talking, singing and music, asking and answering questions and cooperative play. Social skills are further developed in the areas of sharing, following directions, following rules in group games, and interacting with other students and adults.

We believe that each child is a unique gift from God. Our approach involves the whole child. We recognize that each child will develop at his own pace. We provide a learning environment that is rich in opportunities for growth and learning through developmentally age-appropriate, hands-on activities.

Curriculum

Children have short attention spans but love repetition. Knowing this, we offer an organized and structured program. Children love to know the plan for the day. They are constantly asking what is next and, sometimes, even tell us what is next!

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Preschool also offers KID-FIT, A Physical Education Program designed especially for preschoolers.

To achieve all of our goals at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Preschool we have adopted a rotation-based format for our school. Each room has designated centers of learning and play. To achieve each aspect of development, through play and choice, each child has opportunity to access each center or area of learning that we have established.

Above all, we strive to offer each child a Christian environment of unconditional love and acceptance which will foster independence, trust, respect for self and others, and an understanding of God's love through the love shown by caring adults.

Ages Served

Children who are 2 1/2 years old (each child must be toilet trained) through 5 years old may be enrolled in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Preschool. We also welcome childcare drop-ins, with required documentation and as space allows

Days and Hours

The preschool follows the Rio Rancho Public School schedule for holidays and breaks. It operates from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for basic students and 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for extended studentsMonday - Friday on days the public schools are in session

Our classroom doors open at 7:00 AM (NO EXCEPTIONS) and close for the day at 6:00 PM. If you have questions or concerns please call or see our Director, at 867-9564.
